This week the D is joined by three J’s as we cover the ins and outs of high fructose corn syrup in our homes, asptertame in our drinks and cream & sugar in our coffee. Plus, raccoons. Scary raccoons.

We had quite a lot to say! We went over the results of last week’s challenge to find high fructose corn syrup in our pantries and refrigerators, with varying degrees of success. Happily, I only found six things! And of those six, I’m only eating two while the other four are for other people in the house, pretty much. Of the two, I can easily get non-HFCS replacements, which is great.
We also talked a lot about cooking for our kids. We’ve all come up with clever ways to get our kids to eat well (better than some of the kids’ parents in some cases). How they eat now will affect how they eat later, and we’re also trying to set good examples for them.
It was said on The Biggest Loser recently that if you eliminate 2 teaspoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cream from your daily coffee, you can drop ten pounds in a year. We had a great conversation about exactly what that means.
And… I told the raccoon story. It wasn’t pretty. <sigh>
