How Podcasting Has Improved My Public Speaking

Issue 19 of FeedFront magazineIssue 19 of FeedFront was published in July 2012 with an August cover date. This issue served as the program for Affiliate Summit East 2012 and to go along with my gig as the Emcee of the event, I pitched an article about public speaking.

I’m not the best public speaker around, but I’d be a lot worse if it wasn’t for the hundreds of hours I’ve spent recording and working on podcasts. As I came to learn last week at Affiliate Summit East 2012, the podcasting skills don’t translate exactly to standing at a podium, but they help tremendously. When I flubbed a line, I knew how to recover gracefully. When I screwed up an unfamiliar Nigerian name (even though I practiced and practiced all morning…) I knew how to come back from it thanks to the hours I’ve spent interviewing people.

I was optimistic about the gig when I wrote this article, and I think it worked out really well. I hope you enjoy it.
