Geek Dads @ Home #21 – and Then There Were Two

This week on the Geek Dads @ Home podcast, we regretfully announce the (hopefully temporary) departure of Scott Jangro, a mainstay of the program since the third episode. Scott’s a busy guy, which we can certainly respect, and we sincerely hope that he’ll pop in to join us whenever his schedule allows. So, like Joe says in the first minutes of this episode, “and then there were two…”.

Joe and I begin by talking about our plans for taking the podcast forward by having special guests on a regular basis. If you are a geek dad and would like to chat with us for a few minutes on the show, shoot us an email using the contact form here at the site – we’d love to hear from you. Tell us your story!

The Geek Dads this week cover:

  • Going on vacation and disconnecting – or not – and letting Twitter & email pile up.
  • Creating video and the upcoming Yoga Gnome videos.
  • Joe loves the Flip Mino HD – awesome for doing videos at trade shows and posting them to a blog or YouTube.
  • The Flip Mino discussion leads into talking about video on the new iPhone 3G S, which I picked up yesterday. I relate the very stressful story of how that came to be. Did you know you could “pre-purchase” an iPhone? Saved me a ton of time – which was fortunate since the entire day was one bit of drama after another that kept us from getting back to Albuquerque at a reasonable time.
  • More about the iPhone and various apps. Sam Harrelson just posted an excellent article all about what he’s got on his iPhone.
  • Joe now has someone coming to the house to watch Lily a couple of days a week for a couple of hours, which helps a lot when it comes to focusing and getting things done. The Little Gym here in town offers something similar where they will watch the kids for an hour or two for a reasonable price.
  • We end with a plea to our listeners – if you’re a WordPress/PodPress guru and you know something about the Thesis framework (or even just PHP coding), we need your help. I’m trying to customize our website, and my weak spot is PodPress. How do you manually make the controls for an episode show up on the home page using PHP?

That’s it for Geek Dads this week, hope you enjoy the show!
