Geek Dads Weekly #37 – Daddy Needs a New Pair of Shoes

It’s the Geek Dads Weekly Thursday Edition with Daniel and Joe!

Today the duo talks about Affiliate Summit West 2011 and the impetus behind the Affiliate Improv session (only a day left to vote as this is being posted!). Daniel also drops the news that there are five Gold passes to ASW11 that will be given away on the show starting in late October.

The show title is explained with a segment all about Daniel’s new shoes – a pair of Vibram Five Fingers. Wearing gloves on one’s feet is an interesting experience. Special thanks to Chris Pearson for the inspiration to try them out. (I got my first comment in public about them shortly after recording the episode while grocery shopping. “Nice shoes!” Indeed. ~Daniel)

Daniel’s real big news though is that his house in Albuquerque has sold. All the papers have been signed, and if all goes well, the buyer will sign once FedEx delivers the package on Friday.

Joe has the run down on the historical goings-on in the world of baseball right now. A no-hitter in the regular season followed by a no-hitter in the playoffs? Roy Halladay is on fire. From

[Roy] Halladay, who threw a perfect game May 29 in Florida, became just the second pitcher in baseball history to throw a no-hitter in the postseason. Halladay is just the fifth pitcher to throw two no-hitters in the same season, but the first to throw one in his first postseason start.

Halladay is also the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter and a perfect game in the same season, and the first starting pitcher in postseason history to get more hits than he allowed — he hit an RBI single in the second inning.

Let’s see if he can follow that up with a no-hitter in the World Series.

Lastly, Joe’s got some great news of his own – his new eBook is available! This is a great one; it’s called Hope Springs Eternal: Tales From Opening Day and it’s all about Opening Day and the optimism that baseball fans feel toward their favorite team. It’s a fantastic collection of essays and Twitter updates from fans all around the world, and it’s highly recommended for fans of the game.

Thanks for listening!
