Geek Dads Weekly #62 – For Those That See the World as Their Playground

In which Daniel and Drew discuss Barefoot Books, Late Night Parent and a new contest.

We kicked off the episode with a recap of our weekends. Mine was pretty relaxing, though Angela and I missed a prime opportunity for some alone time by falling asleep at 8:30 on Saturday night. Drew reported back on a tremendous pizza place up near where he lives.

The major segment of the show this time was our discussion of Barefoot Books, an excellent publisher that Drew and I are both really enjoying right now. Drew loves their books so much that he resurrected an old project, Read to Me, Dad, over at He and his daughter Eva are recording videos of themselves reading Barefoot books each night and talking about them. Drew and I are both Ambassadors (affiliates) for Barefoot Books, and Drew is using the commissions from the sales he generates to fund Eva’s future education. I didn’t say so on the show, but I’m committing to do the same with Ian and Winter. Any commissions generated through my affiliate link, will go directly into an account for the kids. Drew’s link is

We have a new contest to announce thanks to Barefoot Books! We’d like you to call our feedback line at 281-241-QAQN and tell us two things: what your favorite book was when you were a kid, and what you think your favorite Barefoot book might be. That’s all there is to it! The winner will receive 5 free books from Barefoot. See below for the official rules.

After we finished our praise of Barefoot Books, we talked about getting an email from Twitter saying that we’d both been followed by @LateNightParent. Further investigation revealed it’s a live show on Monday nights starring Adam Cohen and Josh Becker, two guys we’ve come to know through Twitter and #DadsTalking (and Adam was a guest on the show a few months back). Check out the Late Night Parents show on Mondays at 10pm Eastern on

As we got near the end of the show, Drew talked about a project to raise awareness of Sanfilippo disease. Please check out Drew’s post about it!

Open to U.S. residents only. Shipping address may not be a P.O. Box. Deadline for entry is 7:59pm Eastern on February 6th, 2011. The winner may either pick five (5) books from or elect to be surprised and have the books chosen by Daniel and Drew. Voicemails may be played on a future episode of Geek Dads Weekly with contact information masked. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Side effects may include drowsiness, which is probably what you’re looking for when reading to your kids at bedtime.

Thanks for listening! We’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave us a voice mail at 281-241-QAQN. Also, you can email us at

  2. Thanks, Penny. You're right, people just don't dig voice mail! We ended up with a good number of entries in the end, but no other voice mails!
