Geek Dads Weekly #72 – Altercations

Wherein Daniel, Drew and special guest Brendan talk about dealing with in-laws, car trouble, kids media and not having time to ride.

We’re joined this time by the winner of our Barefoot Books contest, Brendan! We kicked off the show with Drew’s recent drama with his in-laws and raised the question: have you ever had to deal with family drama with your in-laws? How different is it compared to dealing with your own family?

Drew’s drama didn’t end there as he spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with his car over the weekend. It’s all about where the rubber meets the road – and speaking of rubber, Drew burned quite a lot of it on his high speed chase from the cops after leaving the salon where he got his hair done. Yeah, you’ll want to hear that story.

Brendan gave us the run-down on the Barefoot books that he won in our contest, and that sparked a conversation about what our kids watch and read. Are kids really growing up so much faster these days? Generations ago, kids were read the Grimm fairy tales, unsanitized. Today, they get Teletubbies, and people freak out.

Next up, Brendan, an avid cyclist, explained the meaning behind his twitter name and website, NoTime2Ride.

At the end of the show we played a voicemail from a listener – our “biggest fan in Vegas” – who wanted to know what QAQN stands for. Listen around the 53:30 mark for the segment, but as long as you’re reading this, check out how Google Voice transcribed the voicemail:

Hey, it’s your biggest fan of work, but I guess I’m tired of looking. What they had the Q A Q and standstill. I’m right, the about page ever an M rebate is website and there’s no point Tuesday. 128 Q and stands for. I can only get The. Linda.

I know who this is, and his name isn’t Linda.

All this and more – thanks for listening! We’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave us a voice mail at 281-241-QAQN. Also, you can email us at

  1. I had a nice time talking with Brendan, sort of a mini reunion of sorts. We never did tell the story about showering with our bikes. That was some crazy times in Dominic Hall.
