Geek Dads Weekly #82.1 – Go the F**k to Sleep

In which Daniel, Joe and Drew talk about hockey riots, Affiliate Summit East 2011, and going the f**k to sleep.

It’s the QAQN: Rebirth episode of Geek Dads Weekly! We began the show this week by reintroducing ourselves – who we are, where we live, what our lives are like, and why we are geek dads. If you know someone who would enjoy a show like ours, this is the perfect episode for them to get to know us and get up to speed on what’s what around here.

We jumped right into the big news in the hockey world. Not that Boston won, but that Vancouver lost – and lost spectacularly… as a city. They played a good game by all accounts, but the post-game focus wasn’t on the game, it was on the rioting that went on in its wake. We each have some thoughts about that careless and brazen lack of self-control by the citizens of that beautiful city.

Next up, Affiliate Summit East 2011. I’m leading a panel called Affiliate Improv! for the second time along with Drew, Mike Buechele, Jen Goode, and Wade Tonkin. It’s going to be a great time – the session was good the first time we did it, and we’re taking what we learned and making it even better! Along with this news comes the announcement of a contest! We’re giving away several Gold passes (a $549 value) to lucky listeners of various QAQN podcasts. We’re beginning with the first pass this week; details on how to enter and win are below!

Samuel L. Jackson narrated the audiobook version of the children’s(?) book that our title this week references. If you haven’t read Go the F**k to Sleep yet, you need to stop what you’re doing, go to Amazon—here’s a link—and get it. Then log into Audible—here’s another link, see how helpful I am?—and download the audiobook for free. If you’re put off by profane language, it’s not for you, but if you’re cool with the language, it’s hysterical. Disclaimer: we blew out our iTunes Explicit setting on this one; normally we do a profanity-free show, but this was too good to pass up. The show is clean with the exception of that segment, which we warn you about as it comes up.

We wrapped up with my story about surprising my wife with an overnight trip to Austin to see Rush play at the Frank Erwin Center earlier this week. It was a fantastic trip and a great mini-getaway for us. I wrote about the trip a few days ago, and told a couple of stories here that I didn’t relate in text.

All this and more – thanks for listening! We’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave us a voice mail at 281-241-QAQN(7276). Also, you can email us at

  1. I've been to two previous Aff Summits, and both were amazing in regards to meeting new people and forging new relationships. I had a great time and recommend attending to anyone who is interested in performance marketing or building a better website. The experience was invaluable for me and I look forward to attending future Affiliate Summits. I'd like to attend the next Affiliate Summit to meet more people and get fired up about blogging again (there's nothing as motivating as being around a couple thousand like minded individuals!).

  2. I’d like to go to affiliate summit East to see Adam Reimer again! And Jen Goode too. It’s always great to spend some time face to face with people you follow online, plus it’s great to see new things and the broadway shows will be exceptional.
